Today at Noon Eastern, EPI President Heidi Shierholz will testify in front of the U.S. House Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth about how an imbalance of power between employers and workers leads to economic disparities.
In her testimony, Shierholz will discuss the huge increase in corporate power relative to worker power in the last four decades, which has had disastrous consequences for America’s workers. A strong labor movement is the single most effective counterbalance to these developments, but policymakers have allowed unions to be hamstrung by relentless attacks. As we build out of the pandemic, policymakers must institute policies that empower workers and promote unions. Failure to do this will result in an economy marked by even greater inequality and weaker opportunities for working people.
